All of us like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way…There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death…For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction…
Our whole rebel world is plunging headlong on this destructive “way”, and Jesus will arrest and reverse that deadly plunge when He returns. But even now, He is sovereignly, graciously “arresting” individual, hell-bent, sinners, as He did Saul on the Damascus road.
Has He arrested you? Are you in His loving custody? It doesn’t require a sudden and dramatic experience like Saul’s. With many it is a gradual, more low-key process of repenting and believing, but it is still real—and vitally important! It is also possible–and desirable!–to know for sure that we are in Jesus’ strong grip.
So if you’re not sure, don’t rest until you are, and can say with certainty, “Yes! I am one of Jesus’ blessed, blood-bought ‘prisoners’!”
If you are under Jesus’ “arrest”, be thankful! Rejoice! Praise God! No matter what happens, nothing and no one—including your own sins–can snatch you out of His mighty grip. That’s real safety! That’s true security! That’s solid peace and lasting joy in time and eternity.
Life—the Christian life—can be profoundly difficult. But in the best of times and the worst of times, there is no better, sweeter, safer place to be than under Jesus’ blessed “arrest” and in His loving custody.
